It has just been reported that Robert Bosch GmbH delivered the software that Volkswagen Group used for manipulating car emissions, however Bosch management had warned of illegal use to VW management at the time. Bosch delivered the software for test purposes only as reported by a German newspaper and told Volkswagen in a letter in 2007 that the planned use would be illegal.

Robert Bosch supplies many European car brands with diesel engine management software and they are now being roped into this issue. Bosch, the world’s biggest supplier, is adding up the cost to its business and reputation of the VW emissions scandal.

A Bosch spokesman recently told German news that the components included delivery and metering modules for exhaust gas treatment and common-rail injection systems. Responsibility for configuring handling characteristics of these components “lies with Volkswagen,” a Bosch spokesman remarked last week.
