Service and maintain your car at a authorized dealer workshop or an independent workshop?

For most of us motorists there is no joy in servicing our car. It most always is a dreaded experience which leaves us trying to avoid it for as long as possible. The reasons are plentiful, but let’s look at the most common ones. Workshops are smelly and dirty. It might take from two hours to a few days depending on what needs to be done. Your car comes back with greasy handles, steering and gear-lever.

It costs money. The mechanic finds more things wrong with it and we can’t tell if we are being taken for a ride or not. All this and more are reasons why more motorists are shying away from owning used cars and instead taking to new cars and trading them in when the manufacturer’s warranty is about to end. This allows them to change to a new car every 4-5 years and have less worry as their car is being maintained at a clean dealership with an air-conditioned waiting room equipped with Wi-Fi, café bar, TV and clean bathrooms. However some of these new dealer workshops can start being very negative when your car passes the warranty period and you continue to send it in for maintenance.

We motorist are left to their mercy and what needs to repaired or not when it comes to workshops. Over the years I have had my fair share of shady workshops and mechanics. From the time I had my first car until a few years ago when my car blew a radiator hose I have been at the mercy of these ‘car doctors’ that always make the same unanimous claim, no problem-lah I can fix it for you, don’t worry it won’t cost much and it will take a few days! All of this never comes out the way they claim and once the repair is done you have no choice but to beg, borrow or steal to pay whatever they charge, as the car will be left in their possession until payment is received.

There has yet to be one that comes close to being 100% truthful. Maybe it is just my ignorance in the area of engines or is it just that I have the ‘come and con me’ face? Maybe we all have the same ‘come and con me face’! My years of car ownership have left me with a bad taste in my mouth when talking about workshops and their work. Through expensive trial and error I have learnt who to trust and not.

Contact me and I will share with you my trusted list of workshops……I am using them and now I have well run low costs vehicles in my garage.
