TCR Asia Series Reveals Extended Program for 2017

On the eve of the final round of the 2016 TCR Asia Series on the streets of Macau (19-20 October) comes the release of the calendar for the third season of the popular regional Series, with an increase in the number of events – and the unveiling of a standalone season without inclusion in the International Series calendar.

“We’re proud to have been the first regional championship outside of the TCR International Series and to be continuing to break new ground in Asia with a concept that has proven especially successful around the world,” WSC Asia Limited CEO David Sonenscher said.

“For season 2017 the Series in Asia has taken a step forward with a 12-round season for the first time – and significantly – we are competing alone for the full program, not alongside the TCR International Series as we have done over the last two years.”

The 2017 championship will begin in Sepang, a venue which has appeared in the opening two seasons of the TCR Asia Series, with a proposed two day test ahead of that first event to give teams a chance to prepare in advance of the new season.

From there the Series will travel to South Korea, before two events in Thailand, the first at the Chang International Circuit before a spectacular and challenging street race in Bangsaen. The Series will then move to China, with the debut event for the Series at the new Zhejiang circuit, ahead of the final event in Shanghai.

“With the expansion of TCR around the world this year and the recent announcements about the inclusion of such iconic marques as Audi, Peugeot and Kia alongside incumbents like Volkswagen, Honda, Ford, Alfa Romeo, Opel and Seat, things for TCR are just going to continue to improve and with that, TCR Asia will become one of the fastest growing categories in the region.”
