Trakarn Throttles to the 2017 FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship

The launch of the 2017 FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship last week marked another new journey embarked by top SuperMoto riders across the world to land the top championship spot and fame. This ideology is not exempted from the 2015 champion, Thailand’s Trakarn Thangthong, as we asked him a few questions about his hopes and expectation for the race.

Q: Welcome back to the championship. You went on a season hiatus. What happened?
A: Thank you for having me. Missing out a season last year was due to some clashes on my schedule. It was unavoidable, but I continued to observe the race and noticed that the competition grew stronger. My disappearance from the last season and the increasing pressure from other riders transformed into an energy booster for my training.

Q: What was the training undertaken during this period?
A: Skills training is inevitable. The more crucial ones would be the preparation mentally and physically. I have lengthened my fitness training to ensure that I am physically fit for the race. Also, I have competed in various local races at different venues as part of the body’s adaptation process at various tracks.

Q: You have dominated the Thailand’s race in 2015. With the season opener hosting again in your home country, what are your hopes and expectation for the race?
A: It is hard to predict when every contending rider has improved over the years. The weather and environment will be an advantage, but with a different track designed on the circuit, it will be difficult to determine the outcome. Nevertheless, I will put my best foot forward and make the country proud.

Q: Who is your biggest rival in the championship?
A: Every rider on track is a rival. However, the Europeans and former champions are the ones to watch out.

Q: Before we end, would you like to say a few words to your fans and supporters?
A: I will do my best to win the opening round and championship title, and return as a national hero again.

Trakarn will be racing under the K45 Maxima Super Moto Team. Catch him at the opening round of the 2017 FIM Asia SuperMoto Championship live at http://www.twenty3.tv from 10:00AM on 2 and 3 September 2017. Follow Trakarn on Facebook at Trakarn Thangthong FanPage or Instagram at @game_18.
