Royal Enfield has launched a limited edition Classic 500 Pegasus
Royal Enfield recently unveiled the Classic 500 Pegasus limited edition motorcycle in the UK. The new Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus motorcycle pays homage to the legendary RE/WD Flying Flea 125 motorcycle that was manufactured at the manufacturer’s underground facility in Westwood, UK during the World War II. It was used by the British paratroopers and was more commonly known as the Flying Flea.
The bike will be sold in just 2 colours, Service Brown and Olive Drab Green. It will run on a single cylinder 4-stroke air cooled, 499cc electronic fuel injection engine delivering 27.2 bhp @ 5250 pm and 41.3 Nm @ 4000 rpm. The engine will be mated to 5-speed gearbox.
Only 1000 units of the Pegasus edition will be manufactured globally.
A Little History
At the height of the Second World War, Royal Enfield made a resilient 125cc motorcycle designed to be deployed behind enemy lines via parachutes and onboard the Horsa Glider to provide communications support along with acting as a quick mobility platform for the forward units of the Airborne Pegasus Regiment across key operations such as D-Day and Market Garden. Officially designated the ‘RE/WD 125’ it was more fondly recalled as ‘The Flying Flea’ by the men who rode it.
