5 lucky Shell Helix customers from Malaysia will get to test their driving skills to the limits in South Africa as Grand Prize winners of the 2013 edition of Shell Helix’s highly popular global promotion. Ms Chew Yeah Fah, 30, from Petaling Jaya; Mr Ching Chi Yee, 31, from Puchong; Mr Ho Chee Kin, 33, from Kajang; Mr Ho Yung Shih, 32, from Kuala Lumpur; and Encik Sarfarizal Md Saad, 36, from Lumut; beat four other finalists at a special off-road challenge in Selayang to win an all-expense paid 5-day 4-night VIP trip to South Africa in the finale of Shell Helix’s “Can You Handle the Extreme?” consumer contest.

The finalists had to correctly and successfully drive a Nissan Navarra pickup truck, sponsored by Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd, through various obstacles such as a V-gully, 45-degree leaning slopes, water and mud track, and hill climb and descent. They will represent Malaysia and compete with contest winners from around the world for the 2013 Shell Helix Extreme Driving Champion title in Cape Town, South Africa during the trip from November 27 till December 1, 2013. The two-day competition comprises an extreme off-road challenge in the shadow of Cape Town’s famous Table Mountain and an exciting navigation challenge through the African bush teeming with wildlife.

Ms Chew, an engineer by profession and the only female among the five Grand Prize winners, did not expect to win in her first attempt in the annual Shell Helix contest.  On the other hand, Royal Malaysian Navy instructor Encik Sarfarizal was extremely confident of winning after finding out that the contest finale was an off-road challenge. The Shell Helix “Can You Handle the Extreme?” contest held from March 1 to May 31, 2013, was open to customers who purchased a four-litre pack of Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic motor oil or from the Shell Helix HX7 synthetic technology range that includes the HX7, HX7 E and HX7 Diesel.  According to Mr Alex Lim, Cluster Marketing Manager, Shell Lubricants SEA-South, the Shell Helix Global Promotion had become a much-looked-forward-to annual event with its exciting interactive format and spectacular prizes.

“At Shell Helix, we aim to reward our customers with memorable experiences that no other lubricant brand can offer.  The amazing South African experience will provide our five Grand Prize winners a taste of some of the extreme conditions shown in the Driven to Extremes TV programme. Participants will have the best training available to help them understand the working of an engine in such extreme conditions, how to handle the vehicle on various terrains and, of course, the importance of oil selection to optimise the vehicle engine performance in such conditions. I am sure that all of the competitors who travel to Cape Town will have an experience of a lifetime,” he said.

The learnings gained from such extreme product testing are then applied to benefit Shell Helix customers and offer them the most advanced lubricant products available in the world. For more information on Shell Helix, please visit www.shell.com.my.
