Monster Tajima crashes in New Zealand

For the hillclimb enthusiast, Pikes Peak is the holy grail of events, being one of the most internationally renowned and publicized hill-climb competitions in the world. But that doesn’t mean it’s the only mountain worth attacking for any serious time-attack enthusiast. Monster Tajima is one such competitor, being a crowd favourite over the past few years.

Unfortunately, the strikingly large Japanese man had a mishap during the Race to the Sky event in New Zealand. This time around he was teaming up with Toyota, having run through various manufacturers over his time in competition. The standard GoPro livery made a return, instantly recognizable among the field of other entrants.

As he was bombing up the gravel path, his car suffered an aerodynamic failure as the rear cowl and wing detached itself from the body. This spat him to the left, off the track and onto the hillside. Thankfully the car did not fall far, and the stiff roll-cage structure of the vehicle kept him safe. Just a few hours later, he was happily conducting interviews in good nature and spirit.
