Why Do Many Malaysians Ignore The Audi A4 Quattro

Did you know there is an Audi A4 Quattro in showrooms since July 15th 2017? Did you even read about this performance sedan in any of the local newspapers or websites? Well, let us share with you some interesting facts if you missed it.

Realistically only one other car competes directly with this Audi A4 Quattro, which is the RM309,000 Subaru WRX STI with its legendary all wheel drive system. The BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes C-Class only ‘plays’ with the regular Audi A4 2.0L TFSI.

This is a fully imported Audi with all wheel drive and a turbocharged 2-liter engine ready to have the ‘right’ driver behind the steering wheel. It has been forgotten and missed by Malaysians and that is why its sales figures have been very low. Even its sibling, the stock 2-wheel drive A4 without the all wheel drive system gets little attention with the competition ‘shouting’ actively on social media and motoring websites constantly.

This forgotten sports sedan is about to get a boost in popularity as we feel it is time for segment buyers to take a closer look and at least take a test drive before dismissing it completely.

This Audi A4 2.0 TFSI Quattro, combines the highest-output version of Audi’s award-winning EA 888 2.0 TFSI engine with Audi’s legendary Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system that produces 252hp with a maximum 370Nm of torque allowing it to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 5.8 seconds. It will easily reach the electronically limited top speed of 250km/h briskly.

Plus you get permanent power to all four wheels. The Quattro permanent drive system guarantees more driving pleasure especially on slippery road surfaces. If the wheels of one axle lose grip and threaten to spin, the centre differential redirects the drive torque to the other axle. The result: better acceleration, greater lateral stability, improved traction, enhanced safety and even more driving pleasure.

The 7-speed S tronic gearbox in this A4 Quattro consists of two multi-plate clutches and two sub-transmissions. Both of these are continuously active, but only one is powered by the engine at any given time. For example, when the driver accelerates in third gear, fourth gear is already engaged in the second transmission section. Gears are switched over by changing the clutches – one opens and the other closes. The gear change takes just a few hundredths of a second with almost no interruption in power flow. So quickly and so smoothly that the driver barely notices it.

For the asking price of RM314,900.00 (demo unit sells for RM257,900) Audi Malaysia will include the S Line package in your A4 Quattro. The full package includes the following:

  • Bumper, front and rear, side air intake grilles in titanium black, matt with chrome trim and diffuser insert in a striking, sporty design
  • Radiator grille in twilight grey matt, slats in chrome
  • Side sill trims painted in body colour
  • S line emblem on the front wings
  • Diffuser insert in twilight grey, matt
  • Insert in the rear bumper with honeycomb design
  • Chrome-plated trims for exhaust tailpipes
  • Cast aluminium wheels in 5-twin-spoke star design (S design) size 8 J X 18 with 245/40 R 18 tyres

  • Sport body hugging front front
  • S line seat upholstery in sequence cloth/leather
  • Interior, dashboard and headlining in black
  • S line sport leather steering wheel in 3-spoke design with multifunction
  • Pedals in stainless steel
  • Gear or selector lever knob in perforated leather black
  • Matt brushed aluminium inlays

Take a test drive before dismissing this Quattro as it returns surefooted and precise handling on the tight corners and its tail stays tucked in tight as we ‘pushed’ the Quattro more and more to the limit of our ability. All this and still no ‘pounding’ and ‘crashing’ of the suspension as we hit the ruts and dips on Petaling Jaya uneven roads. The Quattro suspension setup was impressive and even more rewarding as we took a few high speed runs on selected open highways when we moved in and out of traffic with little effect from the uneven tarmac. Attacking corners fast needs good brakes and the Audi callipers and discs worked admirable at all times with no fade or hesitation even when slammed on.

Buyers will enjoy 5-years warranty with unlimited mileage. “Vorsprung durch Technik” literally translated means “Advancement through Technology,” and this what every Audi delivers.
