Maserati MC20 Named China Performance Car Of The Year 2021

Maserati’s all-new flagship supercar, the MC20, has recently been named ‘China Performance of the Year 2021’ at the China Car Award ceremony. It was chosen by a panel of 41 judges consisting of leading automotive journalists.

First introduced in September 2020, the MC20 marks the brand’s entrance into a new era. ‘MC’ stands for Maserati Corse while 20 refers to the year it was born. The car is said to be the successor to the MC12, although it doesn’t quite have the same ferocity as its V12-powered predecessor.

That’s okay because the engine powering the MC20 is still a potent one, churning out 630 PS and 730 Nm of torque despite having a lower displacement and six fewer cylinders. Of course, there are two turbochargers, a dry sump system and a Formula 1-derived combustion system and a few other things that help the engine achieve such an impressive power output.

Design-wise, the MC20 is sure to turn heads with its low grille, smooth surfaces and butterfly doors, which are not only beautiful to look at but also improve the car’s ergonomics and provide easy access to and from the cabin. The aerodynamics were designed through over two thousand man-hours in the Dallara Wind Tunnel and more than a thousand CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations, resulting in a drag coefficient of below 0.38.
