New Range Rover Velar Unveiled, Will Malaysia Get It?

Will we see the luxurious new Range Rover Velar here in Malaysia?

Range Rover SUVs have always been more of a statement than anything else and the new Range Rover Velar proves this by being an expression of pure luxury. It makes a statement by featuring the latest and most advanced Technology Land Rover has to offer with a clean new design and has been refined beyond compare.

The new Range Rover Velar also features a new grille as well as a floating roof design, futuristic flush door handles, sharp LED headlights and dark accents around the bumper. In every way, this new Velar is much more captivating than its predecessor, but will we see this car in Malaysia?

Moreover, the new Range Rover Velar features a refined and opulent interior with a new 11.4 inch floating touchscreen curved infotainment display as well as a full suite of safety technology and pioneering Active Road Noise Cancellation system while being a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). All this makes the car rather expensive.

Now I know some of you may be thinking, “but money is nothing to the people who can afford the Range Rover Velar anyway,” and you are right, however, the number of people who will buy the car anyway is not very high. Plus with cheaper and more appealing competition from Chinese SUVs, well… You get the idea.

Ultimately, this will come down to whether or not Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) thinks that the return on investment on these new Range Rover Velar models will be worth it. So if the company thinks more people will choose other SUVs then it is quite likely that we will not be seeing the new Range Rover Velar here in Malaysia.

Either way, I believe that JLRM will still bring in the new Range Rover Velar to Malaysia but I don’t think we’ll get all three variants here. Instead, I think we will only be receiving the Velar P400e hybrid option which makes 404Ps and 640Nm of torque from a 2 litre, inline 4 engine paired to a 105kW electric motor.

This version of the new Range Rover Velar is capable of reaching 100km/h from a standstill in just 5.4 seconds and can drive for up to 64km on electric power alone. It has a fuel consumption of 1.6l/100km and is fully loaded with all the latest systems and technologies that Land Rover has to offer so it would be the ideal choice here.

Other than that, the new Range Rover Velar is pretty much what one would expect but, of course, the brand can market its quieter ride and supreme comfort to really hammer home the notion that choosing this Range Rover makes you look richer than the other guy and at the end of the day, that is what most people care about.

What do you guys think of the new Range Rover Velar? Do you think JLRM will bring in all the variants or just the hybrid?
