Could Volkswagen finally give the world a truly affordable EV in the ID.EVERY1?
Many automakers tout their electric vehicles (EVs) as the future and keep pumping out these battery powered modes of transport every other day but in most parts of the world, we still the the traditional internal combustion engine more. This is mainly due to the fact that despite incentives and more, most EVs are just too expensive for the average person.

Volkswagen aims to change that with the introduction of the ID. EVERY1, an affordable entry-level EV designed with a compact but spacious body. The ID. EVERY1 oozes charisma, in a quirky way featuring a cutesy front end and unique silhouette.
Moreover, the Volkswagen ID. EVERY1, along with the ID.2all, marks a new chapter for Volkswagen’s design language, blending classic Volkswagen charm with futuristic features. Volkswagen’s new vision is built on three core principles, namely, stability, likeability and Vw’s “Secret Sauce.” What exactly is in that secret sauce remains to be seen but so far, it looks good.

Measuring 3,880mm in length, 1,490mm in height and 1,860mm in width, the Volkswagen ID.EVERY1 concept has very modest proportions but then again, this car is meant to be affordable so one can’t complain. It is powered by a newly developed electric motor making 70kW (95PS) of power, good for a top speed of 130km/h and a range of at least 250km.
Despite being a new generation car looking to the future, Volkswagen ensures that the fans of the brand can enjoy some recognisable elements from Volkswagen models past. These can be seen in things like the straight window line, an iconic design from the Golf Mk1. This gives a strong, structured look, while sculpted door surfaces and bold side sills add a dynamic edge.

On top of that, Volkswagen’s “Secret Sauce” is evident in several design elements, such as the addition of a third brake light integrated into the roof, a floating roof end strip that improves aerodynamics and efficiency and stylish 19-inch alloy wheels, finished in high-gloss black with white-accented spokes.
Starting at around €20,000 (roughly RM95,593), the ID. EVERY1 is definitely not cheap, however it is still leagues better than most other EVs we have on sale right now. Still, even if the concept becomes a reality and is sold here in Malaysia, it will not be very affordable given our country’s tax systems but at least in Europe, it will be affordable enough.

So what do you think of the Volkswagen ID.EVERY1? Would you buy it if it were sold here?
