There are now one million BYD Atto 3 EVs registered worldwide, some of which sold as the ‘Yuan Plus’.
The BYD Atto 3, also known as the Yuan Plus in China, has officially surpassed the 1 million unit sales milestone worldwide. Launched on February 19, 2022, in China under the Yuan Plus name, the electric SUV achieved this remarkable feat in just 3 years and 9 months — a testament to its wide appeal and strong global demand.
Designed as a global model, the BYD Atto 3 is now available in over 110 countries, making it one of the most widely distributed electric vehicles in the world. The SUV’s winning formula of affordability, practicality, and performance has propelled it to the top of EV charts, particularly in emerging markets.
In China, where it carries the name Yuan Plus (inspired by the historic Yuan Dynasty), the model quickly became one of BYD’s bestsellers. It reached 300,000 units sold within the first 14 months of launch, added another 200,000 in the next six months, and went on to sell half a million more units over the next two years. On average, BYD moved about 30 Atto 3 units every hour globally — a staggering 719 vehicles per day.
In Malaysia, the BYD Atto 3 holds the title of best-selling electric vehicle, with 7,389 units sold since its debut at the end of 2022. Its competitive pricing, modern design, and advanced features have resonated strongly with Malaysian consumers, helping BYD establish a solid foothold in the local EV market. It’s now available as the BYD Atto 3 Ultra for RM123,800.
The Atto 3 is the third model in BYD’s Dynasty series to cross the million mark, following the Song (Seal U) and Qin sedan. This milestone underscores BYD’s growing dominance in the global EV market and highlights the Atto 3’s role in making electric mobility more accessible worldwide.
