A total of 22 schoolchildren experienced a distressing incident earlier this afternoon when the van they were traveling in collided with a cement-laden trailer along the North-South Expressway (PLUS Highway), near the Dato Onn Bandar area.
The accident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m., causing a brief period of anxiety for the young passengers and resulting in injuries to several individuals. According to initial reports, the school van was ferrying the students when it was involved in the collision with the trailer, which was fully loaded with cement at the time.
Moreover, the impact of the crash left the 45-year-old female driver of the van trapped in her seat and injured. Emergency response teams confirmed that she had sustained injuries and required immediate medical attention. Fire and Rescue personnel from BBP Tebrau and BBP Kempas were promptly dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arriving, the firefighters assessed the situation and found the van driver stuck in the driver’s compartment. Utilizing specialized rescue tools, they worked diligently for approximately 30 minutes to safely extricate her from the wreckage. Once freed, she was stabilized and prepared for transport to a medical facility.
On top of that, Other than the driver, 3 of the schoolchildren sustained minor injuries during the crash. Fortunately, the remaining 19 students emerged from the accident physically unharmed, though visibly shaken by the ordeal. Emergency medical teams attended to the injured at the scene before transferring them to Sultan Ismail Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The driver of the trailer, meanwhile, did not suffer any injuries and remained at the scene to assist authorities with their investigations. The cause of the accident has not yet been officially determined, and authorities are expected to conduct a full inquiry to understand the sequence of events that led to the collision.
This incident highlights the importance of road safety, particularly when transporting children. It also serves as a reminder of the crucial role played by emergency services in responding to accidents quickly and efficiently. Thankfully, despite the alarming nature of the crash, the injuries were not life-threatening and all affected individuals are now receiving the care they need.
