Will Malaysia receive the new Tesla Model Y L or not?
Tesla has officially revealed a new variant of its Model Y SUV, the Model Y L, an extended wheelbase version with 3 rows of seating. The announcement was made on Tesla’s official Weibo account in China, offering the first glimpse of the new SUV and highlighting its enhanced interior space and six-seat configuration.

The Tesla Model Y L has also appeared in the latest regulatory filings from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), providing more technical details about the upcoming vehicle. The MIIT listing confirms that the Model Y L is designed to be significantly larger than the standard version.
Moreover, it measures 4,976mm in length, 1,920mm in width and 1,668mm in height, with an extended wheelbase of 3,040mm. For comparison, the current Model Y measures 4,797mm long, with a 2,890mm wheelbase. Externally, the Model Y L carries a distinctive “Model Y” badge featuring a stylized “Y,” which was visible in the promotional images shared by Tesla China.

A side-profile teaser photo highlights the vehicle’s stretched proportions, reinforcing its larger cabin and added third-row seating. One of the most notable upgrades in the Model Y L is its new six-seat layout, distinguishing it from the standard five-seat Model Y and offering greater flexibility for families or those needing more passenger capacity.
On top of that, the vehicle is registered under the product code TSL6500BEVBA0, as reported by CNEV Post, and is expected to hit the market sometime in fall 2025. From a performance standpoint, the Tesla Model Y L will be equipped with dual motors, producing peak outputs of 142 kW in the front and 198 kW in the rear.

It will also feature ternary lithium batteries supplied by LG Energy Solution, contributing to a total vehicle weight of 2,088 kilograms. This is slightly heavier than the current dual-motor Model Y, which weighs approximately 4,391 pounds. Tesla China has yet to announce the official price, but industry estimates suggest it could launch at around RMB 400,000 (approximately $55,764 USD).

It remains unclear whether this long-wheelbase version will be produced exclusively in China or also manufactured at Tesla’s facilities in the U.S. or Germany.
