Ford Bronco EV and EREV Will Be Coming To Malaysia, Here’s What To Expect

Will Ford begin going all-electric here in Malaysia with this Bronco EV?

Ford has officially announced the upcoming launch of two new versions of the Bronco in China, a fully electric vehicle (EV) and an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). These models will join the existing petrol Bronco lineup, which is manufactured in China through the Jiangling-Ford (JMC-Ford) joint venture. It seems Malaysia will also get these models soon.

The announcement was made with the slogan “Ford Bronco New Energy is ON,” referring to China’s NEV push. NEVs include EVs, PHEVs and EREVs and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). Both the EV and EREV variants of the Bronco are based on the ICE version but feature distinct styling that blends elements of the rugged Bronco with the more urban-oriented Bronco Sport.

Moreover, the vehicles measure 5,025mm in length, 1,960mm in width, and 1,815mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950mm. The EV has a curb weight of 2,630kg, while the EREV is slightly lighter at 2,510kg. The Bronco EV features an AWD system powered by dual electric motors, 130kW at the front and 202kW at the rear.

It can reach a top speed of 170km/h. Its power comes from a massive 105.4kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery, provided by BYD’s Findreams division. This battery offers a range of up to 650 kilometres and is currently the largest Blade battery BYD has developed, with Ford being the first manufacturer to use it.

On top of that, the Bronco EREV combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine making 110kW acting as a range extender, with two electric motors, a 130kW unit at the front and a 180kW at the rear. It uses a smaller 43.7kWh LFP Blade battery, also from BYD Findreams. The EREV offers an electric-only range of 220km and a total driving range of up to 1,220km.

Like the EV, its top speed is capped at 170 km/h. Both the Bronco EV and EREV are expected to hit the Chinese market later in 2025, expanding Ford’s presence in the fast-growing NEV sector and marking a significant step in the Bronco’s evolution.

So now that we know what to expect in the new Ford Bronco EV and EREV models, do you want to see it here in Malaysia? Also will these models start the all-electric takeover in the country for the brand or will they retain their popular ICE models like the Mustang and Ranger with petrol and/or diesel engines?
