The Ford Ranger WildTrak 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel arrives in showrooms throughout Malaysia.
The new generation Ford Ranger WildTrak has been equipped with a 3.0L V6 turbo diesel for RM193K – an engine that is new for Malaysia. For context, the current generation Ford Ranger RAPTOR is available with a high-output 2.0L 4-cylinder bi-turbo diesel or a 3.0L V6 turbocharged petrol. This generation’s Ranger WildTrak was launched with a similarly highly-tuned 2.0L 4-cylinder turbodiesel (210PS, 500Nm) for RM171K. So, for an additional RM22,000 or 13%, what does this new 3.0L V6 turbodiesel offer?
Well, it has very high and impressive power output for its class. 250PS at 3250rpm and 600Nm of torque at 1750rpm – that’s an immediate 19% improvement in power and 20% improvement in torque – it’s already looking like a decent upgrade over the standard WildTrak 2.0L model. Another upgrade is the gear shifter.
This new version comes with the E-Shifter found on special Ranger variants, including the Raptor models. The 4-wheel drive system also now features a 4A mode, enabling it to constantly adjusts the flow of drive between the front and rear wheels for enhanced performance in all conditions.
Another upgrade comes in the form of 20″ rims, a massive step up from the 18″ wheels on the Raptor 2.0L. Plus, you get a full sized spare instead of a space saver.
Other visual changes include a new Special WildTrak decal scheme and V6 emblem, as well as new lower bumper elements, an underbody bash kit, and specific roof rails. The spec list also says that the rear windows are now 1-touch up/down, which was not listed on the 2.0L model. Other upgrades include a power closing side mirrors with Illuminated Entry System, Misacceleration Mitigation System, and Trailer Sway Control.
Regardless, the upgrade in power, wheels and looks alone should be enough to justify the small increase in the price tag. Compared to the only other 3.0L turbo diesel pick-up truck in the market, the Isuzu D-Max 3.0L, the Ranger WildTrak 3.0L V6 actually has 67% more power and 33% more torque, which is not an insignificant difference.
The 3.0L V6 Turbodiesel continues to use Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission which comes with 6 drive modes – Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul, Slippery, Mud/Ruts, and Sand. It comes in 4 colours:
- Arctic White
- Absolute Black
- Luxe Yellow
- Meteor Grey
On-the-road (w/o insurance) pricing in Semenanjung Malaysia is set at RM192,888 while in Sabah and Sarawak, it’s RM198,688. Early bird customers will receive a 2-year extended service package with a limited edition cooler bag. Those who purchase the pick-up online will also get a Ford camping chair.
