Volkswagen ID.CROSS Concept Debuts At IAA 2025

The Volkswagen ID.CROSS Concept EV debuts VW’s new Pure Positive design philosophy.

Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.CROSS Concept at the 2025 IAA Mobility show, a compact electric SUV that showcases the brand’s new “Pure Positive” design philosophy. Painted in striking Urban Jungle Green, the concept blends futuristic styling with everyday practicality, previewing the next generation of Volkswagen EVs.

According to Volkswagen Head of Design Andreas Mindt, every future VW model will adopt the “Pure Positive” design philosophy, built on stability, likeability, and a touch of heritage-inspired “secret sauce.” The ID.CROSS Concept embodies this with bold, clear surfaces, charismatic C-pillars, and a straight window line that echo icons like the VW Golf and VW Bus. Distinctive 3D light signatures at the front and rear even give the SUV a friendly “smiling” personality.

Measuring 4,161 mm long, 1,839 mm wide, and 1,588 mm tall, the ID.CROSS Concept is similar in size to the VW T-Cross, but clever packaging gives it far more interior space. A 2,601 mm wheelbase creates a roomy five-seat cabin with a generous 450-litre boot and an additional 25-litre front trunk. Inside, a Vanilla Chai lounge-inspired design, real plants in the floating centre console, and fully foldable seats transform the SUV into a modern-day VW Bus-style relaxation space.

The interior pairs 11-inch digital instruments with a 13-inch central touchscreen, supported by intuitive controls, natural voice commands, and a newly designed multifunction steering wheel. Pre-configured “Atmosphere” modes adjust light, sound, and climate, while plant-themed motifs enhance the calm, nature-inspired vibe.

Underpinned by Volkswagen’s updated MEB+ electric platform, the ID.CROSS Concept delivers 155 kW (211 PS) to the front wheels via a new-generation motor. A flat-mounted high-voltage battery provides up to 420 km WLTP range, while the SUV’s ball coupling supports 75 kg loads – ideal for carrying e-bikes. The model also tows up to 1,200 kg, making it more versatile than most compact EVs.

With its blend of futuristic design, practicality, and improved technology, the ID.CROSS Concept is a clear preview of a production-ready compact SUV. Positioned as an urban-friendly EV with lifestyle flexibility, it signals Volkswagen’s ambition to expand its electric lineup with accessible yet distinctive models.
