The BYD Shark 6 PHEV pickup truck has been spotted in Desa Park City and it will be launched here soon.
The highly anticipated BYD Shark 6 (also known as the Shark) has been caught fully uncovered near Desa ParkCity, ahead of the BYD Tech Discovery experience, scheduled to take place at the CP3 outdoor carpark, Plaza Arkadia, Desa ParkCity KL.

The most crucial news for Malaysian consumers is that the BYD Shark 6 pick-up truck is now CONFIRMED for the Malaysian market. This will be the first mass-market plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) pick-up in Malaysia unless JAC can pull off a miracle and bring in their T9 PHEV ahead of BYD.

A New Breed of Pickup: Power and Efficiency
The Shark 6 is a game-changer and very popular in markets like Australia where nearly 12,000 units have been sold as of August 2025.

It is built on BYD’s innovative DMO Super Hybrid Chassis, a dedicated body-on-frame platform. It combines a 1.5L turbocharged engine with dual electric motors to deliver a staggering combined output of 436 PS. This immense power translates to sports-car-like performance, boasting a swift 0–100 km/h sprint time of just 5.7 seconds.

Equipped with a 29.58 kWh BYD Blade Battery, the BYD Shark 6 offers a useful 100 km of pure electric range on the NEDC protocol. Combine a full charge and a full tank and you get 840 km of range. The truck measures 5,457 mm in length and features an advanced coil spring double wishbone independent rear suspension, promising superior ride comfort over traditional leaf-sprung rivals.

Dominating the Chinese Pickup Market in Malaysia
The presence of Chinese pick-up trucks in the Malaysian market remains small, comprising only a handful of contenders. Currently, this segment includes the aforementioned JAC T9 (available in both diesel and pure electric forms) and the capable JMC Vigus Pro. One might also consider the Peugeot Landtrek as its basis involves significant Chinese design input and it is imported from a Chinese-run facility.

The sighting confirms that no segment of the automotive market is safe from the Chinese car brands and established players can no longer play the game on their own rules. Check it out yourself at the BYD Tech Discovery event in Desa ParkCity.
