Ford Bronco Might Come To Malaysia Thanks To Trump PMX Tariff Talks

Why? Well, there is no official confirmation from Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC), Ford’s distributor in Malaysia, regarding the introduction of the US-made, petrol-powered Ford Bronco, however with the recent Trump visit to Malaysia where tariffs (taxes) on American made vehicles was discussed to be removed, this could mean the arrival of the right hand drive Bronco which has started selling in Australia and perhaps more Ford models.

The current Ford lineup in Malaysia is limited to the Ranger pickup and Everest SUV.

Potential Arrival of China-made Bronco EV/EREV: The Ford Bronco Electric Vehicle (EV) and Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) models, produced by the Ford-Jiangling Motors (JMC-Ford) joint venture in China, has just been launched in the Chinese market.

There are rumours that these China-made variants might be introduced in Malaysia, potentially leveraging current new Trump and PMX tax incentives for American auto manufacturers, but this remains unconfirmed.

The Bronco EV features an AWD system powered by dual electric motors, 130kW at the front and 202kW at the rear.

Its power comes from a massive 105.4kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery, provided by BYD’s Findreams division. This battery offers a range of up to 650 kilometres and is currently the largest Blade battery BYD has developed, with Ford being the first manufacturer to use it.

On top of that, the Bronco EREV combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine making 110kW acting as a range extender, with two electric motors, a 130kW unit at the front and a 180kW at the rear. It uses a smaller 43.7kWh LFP Blade battery, also from BYD Findreams. The EREV offers an electric-only range of 220km and a total driving range of up to 1,220km.

Ford Bronco EREV Version Specifications:

Motor: 180 kW (241 hp), RWD

EV Range: 220 km

Total Range: 1,220 km

Top Speed: 162 km/h

The tariffs imposed by the US government, including a 25 percent duty on certain Malaysian-made goods, make these exports more expensive for American buyers. This action affects the Malaysian economy and this is why we could see more American vehicles being imported in and lower costs.

Malaysia and the US recently reached an “Agreement on Reciprocal Trade” in October 2025, in which Malaysia committed to providing “significant preferential market access” for US goods, including passenger vehicles. However, the specifics of this agreement and its impact on the Bronco’s availability are not yet detailed.
