Genting Malaysia Berhad has confirmed plans to introduce charges for vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands, with implementation expected at a date to be announced later
Genting Malaysia Berhad will be charging a toll on the Genting Highlands Resort road to fund the significant costs of the road maintenance, repair and safety, which the company has solely borne since the 1960s.
The company has borne the expenses of maintaining the 24-kilometer private road and it encourages tourism and weekend drives for Klang Valley car enthusiasts.
The road is also famous for many accidents and deaths by high speed driving.
The heavy usage of the private road, built on challenging mountain terrain, leads to extensive wear and tear, requiring constant upkeep to ensure user safety. The company views the toll as a sustainable “user pays” principle to cover these expenses and maintain the road for all users, including the public, businesses, and millions of tourists.

- Maintenance and repair: The toll revenue will directly support the ongoing and expensive maintenance of the private road and its slopes.
- Safety: Heavy usage necessitates constant maintenance to ensure the safety of the road and its users, a responsibility Genting Malaysia takes seriously.
- Cost recovery: The company has historically covered the cost of building and maintaining the road on its own. The toll is the most sustainable way to recover these escalating expenses.
- “User pays” principle: Genting Malaysia is applying the “user pays” principle, which means those who use the road will pay for its upkeep.
- Private road: The company emphasizes that the road is a private one, and it has the right to implement charges for its use
