Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia showed its intelligent and sustainable mobility tech at the Global Automotive and Technology (GATE) Expo 2025.
The core of GWM’s showcase is the Hi4 (Hybrid Intelligent 4-Wheel Drive) system, a next-generation hybrid technology. This system is engineered to combine dual-motor 4WD capability with smart energy management, delivering the power of a 4WD vehicle with the efficiency of a 2WD.

- Technology Overview: The Hi4 system, developed through GWM’s global R&D network, intelligently balances electric and petrol power for seamless performance. The system has been tested globally and is suited for Malaysia’s unique roads, tropical climate, and diverse driving habits. The technology aims to make powerful driving intelligent and efficiency effortless.

- Engineering Details: This new configuration features three power sources and dual-axis distribution, with dual motors near a 50:50 distribution, allowing free torque transfer between axles for complex road conditions. It includes the iTVC intelligent torque vector control system for improved stability, comfort, and safety, and utilizes an electromechanical coupling transmission system. It can automatically switch between up to nine working modes for optimal efficiency.

The Debut of the GWM WEY G9 Luxury MPV
The next major step for GWM in Malaysia is the launch of the GWM WEY G9 in early 2026. This luxury MPV will be the first model locally to feature the Hi4 Intelligent Hybrid 4WD system.

- Intelligent Luxury: Positioned under the theme “First-Class for All,” the WEY G9 is designed to blend intelligence, comfort, and sustainability, aiming to redefine premium hybrid mobility for Malaysian families.
- Global Success and Features: The WEY G9 has already achieved significant success, with sales surpassing 10,000 units in China in October 2025, making it a strong contender for the No. 1 MPV position across petrol, hybrid, and EV segments. This 7-seater MPV boasts a combined system output of up to 440 hp and 642 Nm of torque and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. It offers a driving range of up to 1,000 km, with a pure EV-only range of up to 170 km. Luxury features include Nappa-style leather upholstery, captain’s chairs in the second row with ventilation and 10-point massage functions, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, and extensive use of high-strength steel in its ‘fortress-like’ safety structure.

Commitment to Localisation and Industry Value
GWM Malaysia is actively accelerating its localisation programme to foster long-term value, strengthen local industry participation, and create a resilient supply chain.
- Localisation Efforts: The company is collaborating with local vendors for the localisation of components, including seat modules, wiring harnesses, sub-frames, door trims, and batteries. Future plans include localising additional parts such as exhaust systems, carpets, and suspension assemblies.
- Ecosystem Development: This commitment aims to develop a sustainable business ecosystem that supports local capability building, nurtures skilled employment, and contributes to Malaysia’s goal of becoming a regional hub for intelligent new energy vehicles. The GWM Haval H6 HEV is already locally assembled in Malacca by EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB).

GWM’s strategy, anchored by the advanced Hi4 technology and the premium WEY G9, signifies a commitment to ushering in a new era of intelligent, connected, and accessible mobility in Malaysia.
