The Renault Clio may not be available in Malaysia anymore, but seeing this new version makes us want one.
Renault has just shown the all-new Renault Clio and while we’re certain it’s not coming to Malaysia, it does look really good. Just as in the 5th generation, the 6th generation is built on the bones of the CMF-B platform, but this time it has been given a longer wheelbase and wider tracks. The new Clio is 67mm longer from bumper to bumper and is 39mm wider too. Other key improvements to the Clio in this generation is the better aerodynamics (0.30Cd), better acoustics due to increased insulating foam use, and more sustainable materials – up to 33.9% of the vehicle’s materials come from the circular economy, including 92% of the upholstery fabric and 100% of the rear bumper absorber plastic.

Under the hood, the new Clio has a number of powertrain options – with the full hybrid E-Tech model positioned as the flagship now with 160hp instead of 145hp. The hybrid set-up gets a larger 1.8L (up from 1.6L) HR18 petrol motor with direct injection and running on the Atkinson cycle. The battery capacity has also increased from 1.2kWh to 1.4kWh. The new hybrid set-up is 1 second faster to 100km/h than its predecessor and Renault claims up to 80% of driving time in cities can be done on pure electric power. A 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol turbo engine is positioned as the entry level powertrain with the choice of a 6-speed manual or 6-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. Later on a flex-fuel version of the powertrain will be introduced for certain markets.

In terms of design, the new Clio is more athletic with a new expressive and aggressive front end, a more prominent radiator grille with a diamond pattern, a new light signature with, new daytime running light signature and floating headlamps. The largest rims now go up to 18″.

The new Clio features the pioneering OpenR Link multimedia system with Google built-in, alongside a distinctive double V-shaped screen. A future update will see the integration of Gemini, an AI assistant from Google, replacing Google Assistant via an over-the-air update. The compact steering wheel, inspired by Renault Austral and Rafale, complements the dashboard’s modern textile finish on the passenger side, varying by version. Adding to the ambience is mood lighting with 48 LED colour options.

The Esprit Alpine interior flaunts top-spec trim with an Alcantara dashboard and “spectral titanium” accents. Enhanced steering and driving modes, coupled with an optional Harman Kardon audio system featuring ten channels, 410 watts, and five soundscapes crafted with Jean-Michel Jarre, elevate the driving experience. The cabin boasts class-leading interior space, an extended wheelbase, and a longer cabin for increased rear passenger comfort and knee room. Upgraded storage and connectivity options, including an expanded central console compartment, ensure convenience and practicality. In terms of safety, Renault say there are 29 new generation ADAS features on this new Clio.
