Volvo Car Malaysia extends their free data connectivity package to 2022 and 2023 model year car owners.
Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has announced an industry-first extension of its complimentary data connectivity package for eligible owners. Owners of Model Year 2022 (MY22) and Model Year 2023 (MY23) Volvo cars will now receive an additional year of free data connectivity for the service, now officially named Volvo Car Connect Plus.

This extension effectively brings the complimentary period for these early adopters in line with the latest models, granting them a full five years of free data access.

What is Volvo Car Connect Plus?
Previously known as Digital Services, Volvo Car Connect Plus is the essential data connectivity package bundled with the latest generation of Volvo cars featuring Google built-in.

This service is critical for unlocking the full suite of in-car digital capabilities without needing a tethered connection:
- Seamless Integration: Enables integration with Google’s software services, including Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play Store.
- Convenience: Allows for tether-free media streaming.
- Software Updates: Facilitates over-the-air (OTA) updates for the vehicle’s systems.
Sun Qian, Head of Total Offer for Volvo Cars APeC region, noted that this generous allocation is a way of thanking customers for their loyalty and letting them fully experience the benefits of the Google built-in cars, such as using voice commands for navigation or air conditioning without distraction.

Rewarding Early Adopters: The Extension Details
When the first Google built-in Volvo cars were launched in Malaysia, customers were initially entitled to four years of complimentary data connectivity. Since the introduction of 2024 model year cars, this offer was increased to five years.

The new extension is specifically targeted at rewarding this first wave of customers. Owners whose current four-year subscription is ending soon will receive the extra year automatically. Crucially, this extension is hassle-free: it happens automatically and requires neither a software update nor a SIM card replacement.

“Customers who were early adopters can now have further peace of mind knowing that they, too, can enjoy a full five years of free data access without the hassle of subscribing to a new plan in the next few months,” added Sun Qian.
Eligible Models for the 1-Year Extension
The complimentary extension applies to owners of Model Year 2022 and 2023 cars built on the brand’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) and first-generation Scalable Product Architecture (SPA1) platforms.
| Model Year | SUV / Crossover | Sedan | Estate |
| Model Year 2022 | XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, XC60, XC60 Recharge | S90 Recharge | – |

More Than Just Entertainment: The Future of Software-Driven EVs
Beyond media and navigation, Volvo Car Connect Plus is an increasingly vital feature, particularly for Volvo’s next generation of fully electric models, which are definitively software driven. For cars like the EX90, ES90, and EX60, the service allows for more data to be processed and analyzed over the air, improving machine learning for next-level autonomous driving and real-world road safety scenarios.

Another key financial benefit for owners is that the subscription is connected to the vehicle, not the owner. If the car is resold, any remaining validity period and data quota of the subscription automatically transfer to the new owner, potentially benefitting the car’s resale value.
