We were invited to SAIC-GM-Wuling Headquarters in Liuzhou, China for a first look at the a 7-seater electric MPV called Wuling Cortez Darion
Get ready for this latest family vehicle to be introduced in Malaysia by TQ Wuling.
The Wuling Cortex Darion (what a mouthful for a vehicle name) is also known as the ‘Xingguang 730’ in China and sales just started on October 15, offering plug-in hybrid, pure electric, and gasoline versions. With luxurious configurations, intelligent technology, and true 7-seat comfort, it redefines the all-around family MPV.
The Wuling Cortez was specifically designed for the Indonesian and ASEAN market and debuted at the GIIAS 2025 exhibition which means its arrival in Malaysia is very soon to rival other popular Chinese MPV’s like the BYD M6 which retails for RM123,800 and the Toyota Zenix Hybrid which is RM202,000.

Every variant comes standard with over 50 premium features, including dual sliding side doors with gravity rails, offering spacious comfort, safety, and versatility for modern families.
The Xingguang 730 is the first in its class to offer three powertrain choices which is a plug-in hybrid, pure electric, and petrol powered all built on Wuling’s original Tianyu Architecture D Platform, designed specifically for new energy applications. This makes it a perfect fit for diverse driving needs across cities and regions.

The Xingguang 730 Plug-in Hybrid 125 km Luxury Edition is equipped with Lingxi Power 3.0 technology, featuring a 43.2% thermal efficiency hybrid engine, setting a class benchmark for fuel savings and performance.
A fourth-generation 10-in-1 high-efficiency hybrid drive system delivering smooth, strong, economical, and reliable operation.
With a combined range of 1100 km, it’s ideal for long-distance family travel. Its pure-electric range of 125 km (CLTC) covers daily urban commuting effortlessly, while fuel consumption stays as low as 5.3L/100km when the battery is low.

The Xingguang 730 Pure Electric 500 km Luxury Edition is powered by a 60 kWh “Shenlian” battery, boasting zero fire incidents across 3 million units sold.
Key highlights include a possible 500 km CLTC range. Ultra-low energy consumption of 13.6 kWh/100 km (≈ ¥0.07/km). Best-in-class 0.276 Cd drag coefficient. A 100 kW integrated electric drive motor producing 200 Nm torque and it supports 2C fast charging, charging 30%-80% in just 20 minutes or adding 200 km in 15 minutes, ensuring convenient urban and intercity mobility.
Like the hybrid, it offers ultra-fiber leather steering, electronic shifter, battery thermal management, and 220V external power supply, turning the MPV into a mobile power station for camping, emergencies, or outdoor family adventures.
And finally there is the Xingguang 730 1.5T gasoline versions (6MT Comfort & CVT Elite) both feature a 1.5T high-torque engine with 290 Nm maximum torque, maintaining strong performance even when fully loaded.
