Ford is planning to start assembling vehicles in Indonesia in 2028
News just in that the Indonesian Deputy Minister of Industry, Faisol Riza stated that the government had received an audience from Ford-RMA Indonesia, which expressed interest in strengthening its presence in the Indonesian market through network expansion, increased CBU volume and local assembly plans.
He further added that Ford has outlined its 2024-2027 CBU import roadmap, along with a local assembly investment plan worth IDR 76 billion (USD 4.6 million) and dealer network support valued at IDR 25 billion.
“Ford’s investment plans, including the potential investment value of assembly and dealer expansion, have been received by the government,” Faisol said via his official social media account, quoted on 10th December, 2025.

He added that Ford also sought input on industrial, investment, trade, and fiscal policies that could affect its future business roadmap. During the meeting, both parties discussed several matters, including adjustments to regulations on double-cabin and SUV production, CKD requirements, vehicle type testing, and developments in Indonesia-United States reciprocal tariff negotiations.
“Ford stated that the current CKD regulations still pose challenges for the pickup line, while the government supports Ford’s industrialisation efforts in principle and is prepared to review any provisions requiring updates,” Faisol explained.
Previously, RMA Indonesia Regional Director Roelof Lamberts provided an indication regarding the potential location of the Ford factory, which would likely be in the West Java region. He added that further details could not yet be disclosed, as the plan remains under review.
“The plan is for West Java, but further explanation cannot be provided yet, as the project is still in the negotiation and review phase,” Roelof said in Jakarta some time ago.
He also stated that Ford’s plan to localise its products in Indonesia corresponds with the company’s intention to expand its vehicle line-up in the domestic market.
“Because we will have a wider product line-up in the future, the possibility of local assembly in Indonesia is currently being examined,” he said.
All Ford models currently available in the market are imported completely built up (CBU) from Thailand, including the Ford Ranger XL, Ranger Raptor, and Everest.
