Perodua Traz Launched

The Perodua Traz has officially been launched in Malaysia, giving Ativa owners an upgrade path.

One of the most hotly anticipated launches of the year has just happened right at the tail end of 2025. We’re talking of course about the Perodua Traz – a new compact crossover positioned as a bigger brother to the popular Ativa while still being based on a unibody architecture unlike the Aruz. The Traz is based on the Toyota Yaris Cross, which debuted in mid-2023 and is sold elsewhere in ASEAN with either a 2NR-VE 1.5L petrol or hybrid option.

The Perodua Traz too is powered by the same 1.5L 2NR-VE 4-cylinder engine with double overhead cams and electronic fuel injection. Power output is 105hp and 138Nm of torque and it’s paired to the now-familiar D-CVT to power the front wheels enabling a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.3km/L.

There are two variants available the Traz X (RM76,100) and the Traz H (RM82,000). The X is the base model and comes with the comprehensive Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) suite but we’ll mention safety in greater detail later on. They share a similar rugged stance with 210mm of ground clearance and 16-inch alloy wheels, though the H variant adds a “Welcome Lamp” to the outer side mirrors and dedicated LED front fog lamps. While both feature Full LED headlamps with “Follow-Me-Home” functionality and manual leveling, the H variant distinguishes itself with auto-retractable side mirrors, whereas the X variant likely requires manual folding.

Interior Comfort and Technology

The interior is where the two models diverge more clearly in terms of premium feel. The H variant upgrades the cabin with a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, compared to the standard urethane finish in the X. For seating, the X features fabric with “semi-graphic” patterns, while the H offers a more premium “full graphic” fabric.

Technological upgrades in the H variant include an automatic air conditioning system (compared to the X’s digital manual system) and an improved audio setup with 6 speakers including tweeters, whereas the X variant makes do with a standard 4-speaker system. Both models benefit from a 9-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay readiness.

Advanced Safety and Convenience

Safety is a high priority for both, as evidenced by their 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating and a comprehensive suite of Advanced Safety Assist (A.S.A.) features, including Pre-Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Pedal Misoperation Control. However, the H variant offers superior parking and visibility assistance by including a 360°

Panoramic View Monitor and a dedicated front corner sensor, features that are absent in the X. Additionally, the H variant includes a Power Back Door with motion sensing and a digital video recorder (dashcam) as standard, providing a significant boost in convenience and security over the base model.

There are two dual tone colour options: Electric Blue or Glittering Silver both with a black roof and these colours are only available on the H variant. Metallic colour options for both variants include Cranberry Red, Granite Grey, Glittering Silver and the only solid colour option is Ivory White.
