SAIC HIMA H5 Is Another New Crossover From China

Looking very much like the Leapmotor C10 and even the Proton eMAS 7, this SAIC HIMA H5 is a new mid-size crossover SUV, the first model from the SAIC brand under Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA).

Developed jointly by Chinese automaker SAIC Motor and Huawei, it is positioned as the most affordable model in the HIMA group, with both battery electric (BEV) and range-extended electric (REEV) versions available.

The SAIC brand is the fifth under Huawei’s HIMA ecosystem, which also includes brands like Aito, Luxeed, Stelato, and Maextro.

Key features include Huawei’s intelligent driving technology and a HarmonyOS-based cockpit.

Key cabin technology features include:

The car runs on the built-in HarmonyOS 4.0 system, supporting voice interaction, online navigation, and multi-screen collaboration.

The cabin features a minimalist design with almost no physical buttons, centered around a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel behind the D-shaped steering wheel.

A multi-speaker Huawei sound system, referred to as the “Star Ring Diffuser” audio system, delivers balanced sound distribution and is integrated with an acoustic-visual AI module.

It includes 50W wireless phone charging pads and a Huawei Link connection point on the front seats for mounting and interacting with phones or tablets.

Smartwatch-controlled functions and Starlink-enabled digital car keys are also supported.

The interior design emphasizes space, with features such as:

A large 2.3-square-meter panoramic sunroof with an automatic sunshade.

Ergonomically optimized rear “true three-seat” layout for comfortable shoulder-to-shoulder seating.

Adjustable backrests for the rear seats. Rear passengers can utilize the HUAWEI MagLink interface to magnetically mount devices like tablets for multi-screen interaction and entertainmentIndependent air conditioning vents for rear passengers. The system includes driver recognition features with 3D facial verification

Higher trim levels of the SAIC HIMA H5 are equipped with advanced hardware for intelligent driving capabilities. Huawei Qiankun ADS 4.0: This advanced system, available in different versions (including “Pro” and “Max” trims), supports features like all-speed, all-direction collision avoidance, and automated parking.

Depending on the trim, the ADAS hardware can include a roof-mounted 192-line LiDAR, three 4D millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 11 high-definition cameras. The system supports address-to-address (end-to-end) navigation assistance on highways and in urban settings. Features also include driver recognition with 3D facial verification

Available in both battery electric (BEV) and range-extended electric (REEV) versions.

The SAIC HIMA H5 is available in both Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) and Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) versions. The EREV model uses a 1.5L engine as a generator to extend the range of the electric motor, while the BEV model is purely battery-electric. Both options are offered with different battery sizes and motor outputs depending on the trim level.

EREV powertrain

Engine: 1.5L naturally aspirated engine acting as a generator, producing 97 hp (72 kW).

Electric motor: 201 hp (150 kW) electric motor.

Battery: 32.6 kWh battery pack.

Range: Up to 235 km (CLTC) pure electric range, with a comprehensive range of up to 1,360 km (CLTC).

BEV powertrain

Electric motor: Available with a 201 hp (150 kW) or a 241 hp (180 kW) single-motor setup.

Battery: Available with a 64.6 kWh or 80 kWh battery pack, depending on the trim.

Range:

64.6 kWh battery: Up to 535 km (CLTC).

80 kWh battery: Up to 655 km (CLTC).

All versions of the SAIC H5 are rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and utilize a single-speed transmission for the electric motors.
