All-New Nissan Navara Is Now In Production By Mitsubishi In Thailand

The new Nissan Navara is based on the Mitsubishi Triton and is being built by Mitsubishi Motors.

The pickup truck segment is buzzing with the latest development in automotive alliances: the official start of production for the all-new Nissan Navara. This next-generation pickup marks a pivotal shift in strategy, as it is being manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors at its Laem Chabang Plant in Thailand, utilizing the robust platform of the acclaimed Mitsubishi Triton.

A Tangible Alliance Outcome

Following the production commencement on December 20, 2025, the new Navara is slated for its official market debut in Oceania (Australia and New Zealand) by the end of the first quarter of 2026. This partnership is a key pillar of the Nissan-Mitsubishi-Renault Alliance, allowing Nissan to enhance its legendary pickup lineage while Mitsubishi improves plant utilization and scales global production.

Rugged Design and Heritage

The new Navara doesn’t just borrow a platform; it infuses Nissan’s distinct DNA into a “Rugged Yet Sophisticated” aesthetic. The exterior features the signature V-motion grille and C-shaped headlamps. In a nostalgic nod to its heritage, the front fascia includes three-part intake openings outlined in orange, paying homage to the original 1986 model.

Inside, the cabin is modernized with a 7-inch color TFT instrument cluster and a 9-inch infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, providing a spacious and high-tech environment for both work and play.

Performance: The 2.4L Heart

Under the hood, the Navara is powered by a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine that delivers a punchy 150 kW (204 PS) and 470 Nm of torque. This powertrain is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and a newly adopted Electric Power Steering (EPS) system for improved maneuverability.

For those taking it off the beaten path, the advanced 4WD system includes an electronically controlled differential lock as standard. Despite its heavy-duty capability, it maintains an impressive fuel efficiency of 7.7 L/100 km (WLTC mode).

Uncompromised Safety

The next-gen Navara is packed with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), including:

  • Intelligent Cruise Control
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Emergency Lane-Keeping System
  • Intelligent Speed Limiter (with traffic sign recognition)

Will the New Navara be introduced in Malaysia?

With production already underway in Thailand—the primary source for many pickups sold in Southeast Asia—the big question for local enthusiasts is whether this Triton-based Navara will make its way to Malaysian showrooms. While the current launch focus is on Oceania, Malaysia has historically been a strong market for the “Mother Trucker.” However, the decision to bring the Triton into Malaysia from Thailand will be down to Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) and they may have other priorities for now.
