2026 Proton X70 Unveiled: Wireless CarPlay, Better Fuel Efficiency & Enhanced ADAS.
The C-segment SUV that started it all for Proton has evolved again. Proton has officially launched the 2026 Proton X70, bringing a host of significant upgrades that address key customer demands.
Sporting the same tagline “Intelligence That Inspires,” from 2018, the new X70 focuses on four main pillars: upgraded connectivity, improved powertrain efficiency, refined driving dynamics, and enhanced safety.

1. Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
The headline feature for many potential buyers will be the infotainment upgrade. The 2026 X70 now features a floating 12.3-inch Infotainment Head Unit that supports Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. To be fair, the outgoing model had it as well, but it was available as an update and not a launch-ready feature.
The system is complemented by the Proton Link 2.0 Mobile App, allowing for remote vehicle monitoring and control via your smartphone.
2. Powertrain: More Efficient “i-GT” Engine
Under the hood lies the new 1.5-litre four cylinder engine, branded as the i-GT (green technology) 1.5TD. This replaces the 1.5-litre three cylinder engine from the 2024 facelift and while the output only improves mildly (4PS and 35Nm of torque), the refinement and efficiently has been improved substantially.
Paired with the 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), the 2026 X70 achieves a fuel consumption figure of 6.9 L/100km. This represents a 5.5% reduction compared to the 2025 model, making it cheaper to run on the daily commute.
It’s worth noting that the AWD configuration has been discontinued.
3. Enhanced Comfort: Quieter & Smoother
A major focus for this update was NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness). Proton has introduced a new Toothed Timing Chain which is 25.24% quieter than a standard timing chain, contributing to an overall engine NVH improvement of 4.5%.
On the move, the ride has been refined with upgrades to the suspension system:
- Suspension: Improved low-to-mid frequency road noise isolation and better roll support capacity for flatter cornering.
- Steering: A revised steering ratio promises a more direct and quick response, making the large SUV feel more agile.
4. Safety: Level 2 ADAS with Stop & Go
Safety remains a priority, with the 2026 X70 offering a comprehensive suite of 13 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Key features include:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop & Go: Perfect for Malaysian traffic jams.
- Lane Centering Control (LCC): Keeps the vehicle centered in the lane on highways.
- 360° HD Camera with 180° Transparent View: Allows drivers to “see through” the chassis to spot obstacles underneath the car.
- Traffic Sign Information (TSI): Reads speed limit signs and displays them on the dashboard.

The new X70 will be available in two primary trim levels shown during the preview: 1.5TD Executive and 1.5TD Premium.

Unfortunately for some, the panoramic sunroof has been completely removed from the kit list. More egregious is the removal of Nappa leather upholstery.
