Volvo EX30 Evolves: New Powertrains, V2L Technology, and Premium Interior Rooms

Volvo Cars is significantly enhancing its smallest premium SUV, the Volvo EX30, for the upcoming model year.

The Volvo EX30 is receiving a comprehensive suite of upgrades designed to make everyday life easier and more enjoyable for electric vehicle owners. From expanded powertrain choices to the debut of versatile energy-sharing technology, these enhancements ensure the EX30 remains a leader in the competitive compact premium SUV segment. This update comes amidst a major battery recall affecting owners all over the world.

The Power of Choice: New Entry-Level Powertrain

For the person who requires a premium electric experience for the everyday commute, Volvo has introduced a new entry-level powertrain. This configuration delivers 110kW (150PS) paired with a 51kWh battery, offering a practical driving range of 339km.

For drivers who enjoy longer excursions, the range is further bolstered by the 69kWh battery option, which provides up to 476km of range. Additionally, the rugged EX30 Cross Country lineup is expanding with the addition of a Plus trim level and a more efficient single-motor variant, giving customers greater freedom to configure a vehicle that matches their specific lifestyle.

Innovative V2L and Enhanced User Experience

A major technological highlight is the introduction of Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality. This hardware-ready feature allows the EX30 to act as a “powerbank,” enabling owners to use the car’s stored energy to power external devices such as electric bicycles, camping gear, or power tools.

Accompanying this is a significant UX update featuring a completely redesigned settings and controls system. This more intuitive interface brings essential functions closer to the driver via a customizable content bar. Notably, these software-driven enhancements—including the V2L capability and the new UX—are arriving amidst a separate hardware recall concerning battery safety. To maintain customer confidence, Volvo is providing these feature updates to both new and existing EX30 drivers free of charge via over-the-air (OTA) updates planned for this summer.

Premium Scandinavian Design Options

The EX30’s aesthetic appeal is also reaching new heights with the introduction of two additional interior “rooms”:

  • Harvest: A warm, light-toned aesthetic inspired by Scandinavian summer evenings, featuring light-colored woven recycled textiles and dark flax décor.

  • Black: A timeless, deep-black environment pairing smooth Nordico upholstery with dark flax accents.

For those seeking a bolder statement, the EX30 Black Edition now incorporates the new ‘Black’ interior room and can be specified in Onyx Black, Vapour Grey, or Crystal White exterior colors. These design and technical refinements reinforce Volvo’s commitment to delivering a smarter, more accessible premium electric experience.
