Geely tests its own “Defender” in Sweden
Geely has released the first images of the final production version of their large SUV which will be positioned to rival the Land Rover Defender. This large SUV is based on the Galaxy Cruiser concept which was presented last year.
Right now, testing is taking place at the Colmis proving ground in Sweden. According to the company, in low-temperature conditions, the performance of the climate system, the efficiency of the powertrain, and traction on slippery surfaces are being tested as it will be targeted as a hard core 4×4 vehicle for all terrain use.
Judging by the above shared published photos, the production version retains the overall proportions of the concept version and is very much like the Defender and also the Denza Leopard, GWM TANK and Jetour T3. However, there are some technology changes like a single LiDAR is installed on the roof, bumpers have been redesigned, and driver assistance system sensors have been added.
Despite the heavy camouflage, traditional door handles, large lighting, and short overhangs are very noticeable. The SUV has received a wide plastic body kit, high ground clearance, and rear swing doors with a mounted spare wheel. In style, the model is clearly aimed at competing with the Defender and its immediate rivals coming from China.
Official technical specifications have not yet been disclosed. It was previously reported that the Galaxy Cruiser would receive a plug-in hybrid system.
It is possible that the SUV will share the powertrain with the all-wheel-drive version of the Geely Galaxy M9. In this case, we are talking about a 1.5-liter petrol powered engine and three electric motors with a total peak power of 640 kW (848 hp), as well as a 41.5 kWh battery.
