UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has officially introduced the Toyota Urban Cruiser to the Malaysian market.
As part of a major three-vehicle rollout that includes the flagship bZ4X and the Hilux BEV, the Toyota Urban Cruiser serves as the most compact entry in Toyota’s new electric lineup. Despite being the smallest of the three EVs launched today, the Urban Cruiser maintains a premium positioning with a price tag of RM198,000.00, placing it only slightly below its larger stablemates in terms of cost.
A Global Collaboration Built in India
The Urban Cruiser is a product of global synergy, fully imported (CBU) from India. It is based on the Suzuki e-Vitara architecture, utilizing a dedicated BEV platform that eliminates the compromises often found in internal combustion engine (ICE) conversions. This foundation allows for a generous 2,700 mm wheelbase within a compact 4,285 mm body, providing an interior volume that rivals larger SUVs.
Engineered for the Modern City
The Urban Cruiser’s drivetrain is optimized for the stop-and-go nature of city motoring. It features a compact eAxle producing 128 kW (174 PS) and 193 Nm of torque.
- Range and Charging: A 61.1 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery provides a range of up to 426 km. Rapid DC charging can take the battery from 15% to 80% in approximately 50 minutes.
- Agile Manoeuvring: With a turning radius of just 5.2 metres, the Urban Cruiser is engineered for effortless navigation through tight parking spaces and narrow city streets.
- 1-Pedal Mode: Drivers can utilize Pedal Mode, which allows for easy deceleration and energy recovery by simply easing off the accelerator.
Premium “Urban Tech” Interior
The cabin reflects a high-tech sanctuary, featuring a brown and black color theme with soft-pad garnishes. The “digital island” cockpit includes:
- Dual Displays: A 10.25-inch instrument panel for the driver and a 10.1-inch High-Definition Multimedia Display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Immersive Audio: A JBL audio system comes as standard, complemented by a quiet cabin environment secured through wind-noise reduction features.
- Customizable Ambiance: Variable-colour ambient lighting offers 12 different colors to set the mood for every journey.
Advanced Safety and Support
Safety is comprehensive, featuring the third-generation Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control that can bring the vehicle to a full stop and resume movement in traffic, as well as a 360-degree camera system with 3D and bird’s eye views.
Like all Toyota BEVs distributed by UMWT, the Urban Cruiser is backed by a 5-year/unlimited mileage warranty, while the battery and related drivetrain components are covered by an 8-year/unlimited mileage warranty.
