Here are two very close rivals in the electric car segment and we share some facts
BYD has been making a strong case in the Malaysia electric car segment with rising sales, confident after sales network and growing fan base.
Plus, it does help that BYD is a EV battery manufacturer and the ‘engine’ of any EV is the battery. Meanwhile, Zeekr is a sub-brand of Geely who has numerous electric car brands under its belt.
Brands like Volvo, Lotus and Proton are household names in Malaysia. Plus, they also have Lynk&Co, smart and Polestar which are very popular in Europe.
Then there is Zeekr which is gaining popularity in Europe and also Malaysia. Yes, Malaysians love the design language and features of the Zeekr 009 luxury MPV and the quick and well built Zeekr X compact coupe.
Now comes the Zeekr 7X and it is a direct rival to the fast selling XPENG G6 and also popular BYD Sealion. However for this article, we are looking at the BYD Sealion as a rival and we will put aside the fact that the Zeekr 7X facelift was just teased in China.

Every Zeekr 7X variant is meticulously engineered to deliver a dynamic driving experience tailored to diverse lifestyles. The RWD Standard offers a blend of efficiency and responsiveness, powered by a 75kWh second-generation Golden Brick Battery and a rear-mounted motor delivering 310kW and 440Nm of torque for 480km range (WLTP), while the RWD Long Range variant extends capabilities with a 100kWh Qilin Battery, offering up to 615km of range (WLTP).
The Zeekr 7X is priced at 179,800 (RWD Standard), RM190,800 (RWD Long Range), and the RM226,800 (AWD Performance).

The BYD Sealion electric crossover has a single-motor mounted to the rear axle with an output of 690Nm. Its acceleration to 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The rated driving range is 542km and the selling price is just RM183,800.
First let’s look at the exterior. The styling is eye-catching, it looks classy and yet rugged at the same time. The BYD Sealion holds its own in the styling and handling departments.
Sharp chiselled lines with muscular wheel arches show for a handsome rugged all terrain all-purpose type looking vehicle and then there is a softer side to the Sealion when you get behind the wheel and find a high appointed luxurious interior that is easy to get used behind the wheel.
The BYD Sealion 7 measures 4,830 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, 1,620 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm.
As with all BYD models, the Sealion also features a state-of-the-art safety system that offers Safety and driver assistance kit found on the Sealion 7 which starts with nine airbags, parking sensors both front and rear, a 360-degree surround view camera, in addition to all the usual active driver aids like adaptive cruise control, AEB, lane departure warning and prevention, lane keeping assist, front/rear cross-traffic alert and high beam assist. Both variants of this BYD e-SUV also gets BYD’s very own Intelligence Torque Adaptation Control (ITAC) torque vectoring system, as well as V2L functionality up to 3.3 kW.
The vehicle warranty is for 6 years/150,000km, while the drive unit warranty is for 8 years/150,000km and the battery warranty is for 8 years/160,000km.
