Volkswagen ID. Polo Being Developed With 450km Range Projected

Volkswagen ID. Polo marks a new era, combining the ‘ID’ branding with a familiar nameplate.

The ID. Polo is set to launch a new generation of electric vehicles for the Volkswagen brand. This compact EV is the first in the ID. family to combine the electric branding with an established Volkswagen nameplate, a strategy last approached with models like the ID. Buzz and the battery-electric e-Golf (which preceded the dedicated ID. lineup). This shift focuses on familiar strengths: intuitive operation, quality, and affordability.

The ID. Polo is projected to debut in Europe with an entry-level price starting at just 25,000 euros, fulfilling the brand’s goal of making electric mobility accessible to many. The model will be built at the SEAT & CUPRA plant in Martorell, Spain.

MEB+ Platform and Power Options

The ID. Polo is based on the further developed Modular Electric Drive Matrix: MEB+. This entirely new platform introduces a highly efficient, complexity-reducing electric front-wheel drive system.

Upon its debut in spring 2026, the ID. Polo will offer three power outputs: 85kW (116PS), 99kW (135PS), 155kW (211PS). A sporty ID. Polo GTI with 166kW (226PS) will follow later in the year.

The vehicle utilizes two new battery configurations:

  • 37kWh LFP battery: Standard for the 85kW and 99kW versions, capable of charging at up to 90kW DC.
  • 52kWh (net) NMC battery: Powers the 155kW and 166kW versions, offering a substantial range of up to 450km and charging at up to 130kW DC.

Dimensional Advantages and New Technology

Despite its size being roughly comparable to the classic Polo, the ID. Polo maximizes interior volume thanks to the compact MEB+ architecture.

  • Dimensions: 4,053mm long, 1,816mm wide, 1,530mm high, with a 2,600mm wheelbase.
  • Interior Space: The electric ID. Polo offers an extra 19mm of interior length compared to the classic Polo, significantly enhancing rear passenger legroom.
  • Luggage Volume: Boot volume has grown by 24% to 435 litres (up from 351 litres in the classic Polo). With rear seats folded, capacity increases to 1,243 litres.

Let’s see if the ID. Polo ends up targeting the Malaysian market. Thus far, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia have not launched a single EV despite having a multi-year window to do so for CBU EVs.
