Volvo EX60 EV Revealed, With 810KM Range, Built On SPA3

The Volvo EX60 EV has been globally revealed as a mid-sized EV SUV.

Volvo Cars has once again redefined the electric vehicle landscape with the world premiere of the Volvo EX60. This all-electric mid-size SUV is a game-changer, specifically engineered to dominate the global luxury segment by eliminating the final barriers to EV adoption: range, charging speed, and price.

Ending Range Anxiety

The headline feature of the EX60 is its staggering range. Built on Volvo’s brand-new SPA3 electric architecture, the flagship P12 AWD variant delivers a best-in-class range of up to 810 kilometres on a single charge. This performance not only sets a new benchmark for Volvo but also outperforms recently revealed competitors in the same segment.

For those with different lifestyle needs, Volvo offers three distinct powertrain variants across seven attractive trims:

  • P12 AWD: The range king with up to 810km.
  • P10 AWD: A high-performance middle ground with up to 660km.
  • P6 RWD: An efficient rear-wheel-drive entry offering up to 620km.

Charging is equally impressive. When connected to a 400kW fast charger, the EX60 can add 340km of range in just ten minutes, making a quick coffee stop more than enough to continue a long-distance journey.

Technological Innovation: HuginCore and Gemini AI

The EX60 is Volvo’s most intelligent vehicle to date, powered by HuginCore—a centralized computing system that allows the car to process data and act with unprecedented speed.

In a world-first for the automotive industry, the EX60 debuts with Gemini, Google’s advanced AI assistant. Deeply integrated into the vehicle’s Android-based OS, Gemini allows for natural, personalized conversations, removing the need for rigid voice commands. This is paired with a no-lag infotainment experience where maps load instantly and screens respond with smartphone-like precision.

Next-Generation Safety and Design

Safety remains the core of the Volvo identity. The EX60 introduces the multi-adaptive safety belt, an award-winning innovation providing personalized protection in the front row. The vehicle constantly monitors its surroundings through an advanced sensor array, assessing potential hazards in real-time.

Visually, the EX60 evolves Scandinavian design for the electric age. Its sleek profile features a low front and sloping roofline, resulting in a highly competitive drag coefficient of 0.26. Inside, a long wheelbase creates a “refined and versatile space” with a flat floor and a premium 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system featuring headrest speakers for an immersive spatial audio experience.

A Sustainable Future

By utilizing mega casting and cell-to-body technology, Volvo has reduced the vehicle’s weight and boosted efficiency. Consequently, the EX60 achieves the lowest carbon footprint of any large Volvo, matching that of the smaller EX30.

Production is set to begin this spring in Sweden, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for the summer. With the EX60, Volvo has officially turned range anxiety into range comfort.
