Geely Now Has An EV Version Of The Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV Donor Car

It’s no secret that the Proton e.MAS 7 and Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV are based on two different Geely models. The e.MAS 7 is based on the Geely Galaxy EX5. The e.MAS 7 PHEV is based on the Geely Galaxy Starship 7. Both the Galaxy EX5 and Galaxy Starship 7 are based on the Geely Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA), which Proton calls the Global Modular Architecture (GMA) despite being virtually identical. The EX5 and Starship 7 have different dimensions, different stamped metal parts, different door handles, and some things under the skin that makes them distinct aside from the powertrain.

Proton’s made no changes to the GEA and called it the GMA, but to also took two distinct Geely models and gave them both the name ‘e.MAS 7’. However, the Geely Galaxy Starship 7 PHEV is now available in China as an EV as well. Which means that should PRO-NET sell this new model here, the logical name would be the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV EV.

Anyway, enough critical analysis, let’s dive into some numbers and facts.

The Geely Galaxy Starship 7 EV is positioned as a larger and more upmarket sister to the Galaxy EX5. They share the same 11-in-1 electric drive system and the same Aegis battery tech. That being said, the Starship 7 EV has more range thanks to larger batteries and with a little less torque.
