PEUGEOT’S FIRST ASEAN HUB CAR

Good news for Malaysian car and Peugeot enthuciasts. Preparations for the first-ever ASEAN hub Peugeot model, the soon-to-be-launched 207, (codenamed T33) have been steadily building up. Manufactured in Malaysia by Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM) with technical assistance from Automobiles Peugeot, the 207 is positioned as an easily attainable European model. “The visit from Gregoire Olivier, CEO – Asian operations of PSA Group is another milestone in our partnership and is testament to their support and confidence in our manufacturing quality, manpower and local vendor base,” said SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin, CEO of Nasim Sdn. Bhd.

Olivier, along with Jean-Yves Dossal, sales director – Asian operations for PSA Group, endorsed the Malaysian-built 207 after being presented with updates from both NAM and Automobiles Peugeot staff stationed at Naza’s RM500 million manufacturing facility in Gurun, Kedah. A member of the PSA Peugeot Citroen managing board and executive committee since 2007, Olivier is the first permanent member of the executive committee to be posted to China to oversee Asian operations. “We are happy to report that all systems are ‘Go’ for the 207. It is a first step towards an increased Peugeot presence in Asean, using Malaysia as its base. PSA Group’s support is a sign of determination to further improve the efficiency of its global production system,” added SM Nasarudin. 5000 units of the 207 are expected to be produced to meet domestic and ASEAN market
demand annually.
