The new Peugeot 207 sedan comes with a refreshed up market modern design along with upgraded electronics and interior to tackle a segment looking for more choices. Peugeot engineers and planners went back to the drawing board to replace the previous 206 for a fresh new car that will stand time and test the competitive mid market sedan market with possible flying colours. For starters, this new Peugeot comes with a sharper suit with precision edges at every corner and a new styled nose that has us believing this is more like 308 sedan. It has wide opening doors and a high lined boot has sprouted out from the back to provide more luggage room while keeping the proportions between the nose and back in order.
Peugeot engineers looking to cater to the ASEAN customer executed this new interior quite exemplary. Plastics are tightly mounted and pleasantly surfaced. Ergonomics have been improved, with three-way adjustable semi-bucket front seats and a tilt/telescopic steering fitted as standard. Pedals also feature more right offset to allow for added space to rest your left foot. Overall there is an increased sense of quality and refinement. Safety has not been ignored with 2 front airbags, ABS brakes, EBD, EBA and 2 rear ISOFIX location points for the child seats.
Cabin entertainment comes courtesy of a very decent sounding MP3/WMA Audio CD player with Bluetooth, USB and AUX connectivity running 6 speakers for crisp sound. For extended luggage/cargo capacity, the rear seats can be split folded 60:40 for knock down furniture to be brought home. Some luxury features have been included also. Automatic climate control with Pollen Filter, sensor activated headlights and wipers and follow me home delay headlamps.
Under the hood is a 1.6-liter engine that offers up an impressive class leading 110 bhp and 147 Nm. It is mated to a semi-auto adaptive transmission with a sport manual shift system. A tight turning radius of 5.2meters provides for easy ‘U’ turns on our congested tight streets and easy parking in the older streets of Petaling Jaya.
This design language could well see another 8-10 years on the road.
