Euro NCAP’s best 2010 cars list

Our automotive market does not provide us consumers with the most up to date vehicles most of the time as we have been forced into a corner by manufacturers who prefer to bring in new cars only when deemed necessary….ie sales are down. In Developed countries, consumers demand and are given the very latest cars right off the global launch and part of this is to keep safety standards high up for all motoring consumers……..and so we bring you a the list of the safest vehicles as tested in 2010 for 4 very important segments.

The European agency for automotive safety, EuroNCAP announced the highest-scoring vehicles of 2010 in four categories. To be selected as safest cars of their categories, these vehicles achieved a high overall score and attained the coveted five star rating. The winning car in the small family category went to the Alfa Romeo Guilietta…for the supermini category was won by the Honda CR-Z which is already selling in Singapore and yet to arrive here…

while the small off-road winner was the Kia Sportage which will be coming to Naza Kia showrooms later this year…..

and the best in class in the small MPV category was the Toyota Verso which we will definitely not see here in Toyota showrooms due to the very docile product planning mandate instructed by their senior management.

In 2010, EuroNCAP crash tested twenty nine vehicles, 65% of which reached the five star rating, compared to 90% in 2009. Euro NCAP boss Michiel van Ratingen says the 25 per cent decrease illustrates their criteria.
