Lotus planning to build a Superleggera version of the new Esprit

Lotus cars have announced that they will be producing Britains fastest car. Lotus chief technical officer Wolf Zimmermann talked about plans to make a flagship Superleggera version of the upcoming Espirit. The top-of-the-line Superleggera will be powered by an upgraded version of 562bhp 4.8-litre V8 engine, which will deliver a maximum power of 612bhp at 9,000rpm. It gets a special aluminum body that is stronger and lighter than what’s used in standard models. Zimmerman said that the car won’t just be a stripped-out racer for the road, but would be a carefully designed version of the standard Esprit. The Superleggera will actually be the fourth model in the range, joining the coupé, convertible and a glass-roofed Targa edition. The Superleggera will be able to accelerate from zero to 60mph in less than three seconds, and will reach a top speed of 212mph.
