AMG’s 45th Birthday

Mercedes Benz will be offering eight more AMG models over the next five years. Confirmed to arrive at showrooms later in 2012 are the SLS AMG GT and the GL 63 AMG. Following shortly is the A45 AMG, which is the first high-performance compact car from the brand. Powering it is a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which was created just for this model. AMG sought to achieve more than 300 lb-ft of torque on this compact model. Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG, said that it aspires to make a four-cylinder series production compact car that has the most power and dynamism as well as having the highest efficiency.

The new A 45 AMG, along with the other future high-performance compact cars, will exemplify the dynamism and the ‘AMG Performance 50′ growth strategy unique to the brand. Mercedes-AMG wants to show how committed it is in entering this new vehicle segment and intends to make a major contribution to the expansion of Mercedes-Benz Cars. The 2.0-liter is partnered with an AMG Speedshift DCT seven-speed transmission and will have all-wheel drive.

AMG is hoping to hold the A 45 AMG model’s global debut during the first quarter of 2013. As part of its AMG Performance 50 plan, the current range of 22 models will be raised to 30 vehicles very soon. In addition, it seeks to sell over 30,000 vehicles annually, higher than 50% compared to its present volume of 20,000 units. AMG declined to provide more details. It would only say that its S-Class range and CL-Class range will be expanded.
