VW Beetle 2.0l TSI Launched For RM218,000. So, Golf GTI or Beetle TSI? Which One Will You Buy

The VW Beetle 2.0l TSI was launched in the Malaysian market today. This follows the introduction of The Beetle at the Volkswagen Das Auto Show 2012 held in September, where The Beetle 1.2l TSI variant was officially launched. At the show, the 2.0l TSI also made an appearance. The 2.0l TSI will be offered here in the ‘Sport Line’ package, which would immediately distinguish it from other variants. The Beetle 2.0l TSI variant comes with an unmistakable design, and has more power and torque, added features, and conveniences.

Volkswagen Group Malaysia Managing Director Mr Ricky Tay said that the introduction of The Beetle 2.0l TSI is part of offering choices to Malaysians, something that is at the core of Volkswagen‘s philosophy of producing ‘The Peoples’ Car’.

The car comes with a 2.0l TSI 200PS engine, which is mated to a 6-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), and can accelerate to a top speed of 223km/h and returns a low combined fuel consumption of 7.7 litres/100km and 179g/km CO2 emission. The 0-100km/h dash takes just 7.5 seconds.

Being offered in the “Sport Line” package, the 2.0l TSI will feature ‘Twister’ 18-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, aluminium pedals, a 4-link rear suspension, a rear spoiler, sports suspension, twin tailpipes, XDS Extended Electronic  Differential Locks, black mirror housings and interior ambient lighting and red-painted brake callipers. The Beetle 2.0l TSI comes with bi-xenon headlights for the first time. Some 15 LEDs frame the xenon module on the outer perimeters of the headlights; they implement the daytime running lights.

The Panoramic roof is transparent and it can be tilted or opened. It is 80 per cent larger (glass surface area) than on the previous model. Incidentally, the insulating glass blocks 99 per cent of UV radiation and 92 per cent of heat energy.

The car also is equipped with the RCD 510, which is an integrated 6-disc CD changer, interface for SD cards and touchscreen. The dashboard has been given a unique touch. It has the form and colour of the front facia (dash pad) in black painted, which makes an instant visual connection, to the original Beetle, and yet looks evolved and modern. Regardless of the colour scheme, controls are within easy reach, instinctive to use and clearly spaced out.

As an overall package, The Beetle 2.0l TSI is bolder, more dynamic and masculine. It features a clear, confident and superior athleticism. The car is not only lower but also considerably wider; the hood is longer, the recessed windshield much steeper. All this leads to a new dynamic design, powerful appearance and muscular tension. The car is available in Tornado Red, Saturn Yellow, Reflex Silver, Deep Black, Reef Blue and Oryx White, and is priced at RM219,888
