Honda Brio Amaze Diesel Is India’s Most Efficient Car

Honda’s new “EarthDreams” family of engines continue to impress with its efficiency. The all new diesel engine powered Amaze sedan is entering the growing Indian automotive market. This 1.5-liter turbo diesel will be launched on the 2013 Honda Brio Amaze Compact Sedan starting next month and it could be the most efficient car sold in the country. The 1.5 i-DTEC reportedly delivers a reported 26 km/litres, equivalent to 3.84 litres/100km.

Honda’s 1.5 Liter i-DTEC turbo diesel engine, developed under the EarthDreams technology, pumps out 100bhp of of peak power at a low 3,600 rpm. This peak power number produced at 3,600 rpm does throw hints that the engine is tuned to offer a high amount of driveability. Notably, the peak power number of 100bhp means that the Brio Amaze compact sedan is the most powerful car in its class. The diesel engine produces a peak torque of 200 Nm and this number is also higher than that produced by the other compact sedans sold in the country for now. This Honda fuel-sipper is derived from the new  1.6 i-D-TEC diesel engine that is used by Honda Europe on the Civic and CR-V. It produces a very respectable 100bhp and 200Nm of torque, all available from low revs. The 1.5 liter diesel engine features an all aluminium construction, a first in its class. The all aluminium construction is said to result in low weight and better cooling. The engine features light engine parts such as aluminium pistons to make for low reciprocating masses within the engine. Also, low viscosity engine oil is another measure to result in low friction and boost fuel economy. The car will also be sold with the 1.2 litre i-VTEC petrol engine that currently offers its services to the Jazz/Fit and Brio hatchbacks.
