2014 Mercedes Benz S-Class Unwrapped

This is the 1st picture of the all new Mercedes Benz S-Class. This picture was uploaded by Mercedes-Benz on its mobile consumer website in Austria early yesterday and was quickly removed it a little later. The photo shows just the front-quarter of the soon-to-be unwrapped car, but it’s enough to have a look at what the final car will look like. As expected, the new flagship vehicle won’t be too far from what we’ve seen so far in terms of design, but the picture shows a couple of aggressive touches, especially in the front fascia area. According to Dr. Goetz Renner, head of the Mercedes Benz customer research center, the upcoming S-class will strive to offer “active luxury” features rather than simply reducing environmental discomforts. So this “car-as-spa” concept that we got a taste of makes a certain sort of sense, especially as Mercedes-Benz works to replace the discontinued Maybach brand and go head-to-head with other luxury heavy hitters.

Inside this Benz there will be a lot of new luxurious options including heated / ventilated seats, a rear seat entertainment system and an “Air Balance Package” that filters and ionizes the air and can even dispense perfume.

This could be a sportier version of the S-Class meaning the regular version should look tamer, but we probably won’t find out more about that until Mercedes-Benz releases more information.

This new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will also be available with a plug-in hybrid version as well, one that is based on the S500 Hybrid Concept showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show three years ago. The standard engine range remains unconfirmed, but probably there will be a 4.6 liter twin-turbo V8, a 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 and a powerful new V12 engine and the new generation 2.0 liter turbo and the diesel range as well.
