MALAYSIA MERDEKA ENDURANCE RACE RETURNS IN 2013 WITH A LARGER LINE-UP

On 31st August 2013 at 2400 hours, the air around the Sepang International Racing Circuit will be filled with the roar of finely-tuned engines as the 13th instalment of the Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) gets underway. The weekend race action will be non -stop from the 29th August to the 1st of September 2013.
A permanent fixture in the Malaysian motorsports scene since the year 2000, the MMER is already well-respected in the global endurance racing calendar as the most gruelling and demanding endurance race of its kind owing to the ever changing weather and track conditions that the Sepang International Circuit is renowned for. This is the 3rd biggest racing event after Formula 1 and MotoGP on the Malaysian racing calendar.

As with previous MMER events, the biggest draw this year will once again be the semi-professional race drivers that will be bringing their personal race machines to compete with the best from around the world. There will be 12-hours of nonstop action as the five different classes of cars and teams pit their endurance of man and machine against the elements of weather and engineering.
Pacific Project Management (PPM) and Sepang International Circuit (SIC) are working hand in hand to make the widely expected MMER 2013 into an even bigger regional event for the foreseeable future.
“This is a unique and challenging endurance race in an exotic location with a track that is certified Formula 1 ready,” said Ian Geekie of PPM.  “Having the race at midnight and working its way to 12 noon will deliver a race that runs from a cooler temperature which will eventually build its way to sunrise with the weather changing between cool and temperate to hot and humid,” he added. “As such the cars and teams need to be ready for a variety of issues especially tyre management as wet weather driving could run with high heat owing to the ever-changing track conditions.”

At present, the PPM and SIC are looking at a provisional grid entry of 50 cars of various classes to participate in this year’s MMER.  In addition, the organisers are also looking to keep the race alive at the circuit with support races from the Audi R8 LMS Cup, Ferrari Challenge Asia Classic Car Challenge and the ASIA CUP.
Off-track activities will also include an all-night ‘Rave Music Party’, where pulsating tracks delivered by top DJs and music acts will deliver a party atmosphere whilst the MMER race action takes place on track.
Entrance fee for the MMER 2013 on all seating areas will be FREE during the duration of the race. A full line-up of activities as well as participating teams will be revealed closer to the date of the event.
