0Volvo Unveils S60 V8 Supercar
Swedish manufacturer Volvo has unveiled the S60-based race car that will be campaigned in this year’s V8 Supercars Championship in Australia.
Scheduled to make its track debut this Saturday at Sydney Motorsport Park, the Valvoline-liveried sedan is powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces about 650 horsepower and 660 Nm of torque.
The mill, which is based on the production 4.4-liter V8 previously offered in the S80 and the XC90, enables the vehicle to accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standing start in only 3.2 seconds. Connected to a six-speed sequential transaxle gearbox, the engine will allow the S60 V8 Supercar reach a top speed of 185 mph (298 km/h).
“This is an historic day in the history of Volvo Car Australia,” said Volvo Australia managing director Matt Braid. “As the first luxury car manufacturer to enter V8 Supercars with a factory team, we’re delighted to reveal our Volvo S60 race car to meet the challenge of the world’s toughest touring car series and strengthen the presence of the S60 model line and Volvo brand here in Australia.”
