According to Toyota, the engineers continued the development of the GT86 in order to improve the dynamics of the vehicle. As a result, the foundation of the upgrade is a more rigid fixation of the front suspension and the rear shock absorbers. The potential of this increased rigidity is fully exploited a rework of shock absorbers. The shock absorbers provide a more stable damping and improved friction control. Due to this, the handling is smoother and more communicative. Moreover, the body-roll was further reduced, while the steering feel is even crisper. The suspension was upgraded in order to allow the driver feel the road and control the car.

The interior of the 2015 Toyota GT86 received a new carbon-fibre dashboard insert. Regarding the exterior, the design remains the same, but we do find new shark-fin antenna that improves the looks and aerodynamics, as well as two new colours, pearl white and silver. Under the hood, we find the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine that delivers 197bhp at 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 205Nm at 6,600 rpm. The engine is offered as standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but as an option Toyota offers the 6-speed automatic gearbox. Power is delivered to the road through the rear wheels.

Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada said: “There is no reason that development should stop, only because the vehicle has gone on sale. GT86 is all about driver involvement, and we are committed to keep enhancing this aspect of the car. The 2015 Model Year delivers the latest status of GT86’s continuous evolution.”
