Volkswagen Scirocco Gets ABT Treatment
It’s now the 3rd generation of the Scirocco clan. And this sports-type coupé has always got along very well with the ABT Sportsline family, always generous in terms of performance and styling. On the occasion of this Volkswagen icon’s 40th birthday, ABT’s racks are full with exclusive upgrades. “For instance, we have real power in our portfolio,” says Hans-Jürgen ABT, the CEO of the globally largest tuner of cars produced by the Volkswagen Group: “Drivers of the original Scirocco, with its fascinating Giugiaro silhouette, could only dream of an engine with 310 hp / 228 kW. Today we can make this dream come true in this make’s latest series. Even Volkswagen’s own R model can’t.”
The strongest ABT-Scirocco’s basis is the 2.0 TSI with serial 210 hp / 154 kW. But ABT also makes the 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TDI more sporty. With the ABT Power “New Generation” and its own control unit the small turbo petrol engine can be uprated, depending on the variant, to up to 210 hp / 154 kW, the diesel engine to up to 195 hp / 140 kW and 390 Nm. Optional ABT suspension springs and the ABT height adjustable suspension kit also make for more fun, while the ABT brake system optimises the deceleration potential.
“In visual terms we also make the Scirocco more assertive, of course. That has always been the case,” says Hans-Jürgen Abt. The extensive aero kit for the current model first and foremost consists of high-quality PUR-RIM, the material OEMs also trust. The dynamic silhouette starts with the aggressive front skirt add on, continues with the side skirts and ends in the excitingly designed rear part, where ABT uses a striking wing, a carbon-look rear panel and a dynamic rear skirt add on which accommodates a 4-pipe rear muffler. This demonstrates why the Scirocco was named after a hot desert wind whenever you are pushing the pedal to the metal.
All that remains to complete your happiness are the right alloy wheels, as in the photo car. Alternatively to these 20” Gun-Metal ABT DR, you can also opt for the ER-C and CR plus various colours and sizes. There is certainly something for every Scirocco fan to celebrate the series’ anniversary with either a large or a small present for himself or herself.
