Gutsy 1.6L EcoBoost® Engine

Delivering 182 PS and 240 Nm of torque and backed up by a six-speed manual transmission, this unique and all-aluminium lightweight engine not only contributes to better handling, it delivers both power and fuel-efficiency thanks to its high-pressure direct injection, turbocharging and Twin-independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT). This results in the Fiesta ST being able to achieve an impressive 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 220 km/h – statistics worthy of its title as the most powerful production Fiesta Ford has ever developed. The Ti-VCT allows the camshafts to operate both intake and exhaust valves in the combustion cycle at different times. This is based on engine speed and load, resulting in more power when accelerating and excellent efficiency under low load conditions such as idling or highway cruising.

Building further on the thrills and excitement of the Fiesta ST are the options available on Ford’s electronic stability control (ESC), which offers drivers the luxury of choosing between three modes – Standard, Sport, or Off (racetrack driving). Each mode caters and is suited for the different needs of the driver depending on the road conditions and their preferred style of driving.

The Standard mode is suited for any road surface or conditions, and is specially tuned to be nonintrusive while at the same time providing the driver with the confidence to drive safely in spite of any road conditions. The Sport mode on the other hand engages minimal traction control, ultimately enabling a more spirited and robust driving performance. When ESC is switched off, the Torque Vectoring Control remains in check and gives full control of the chassis to the driver. Not only would this maximise the sporty handling characteristics that are available in the vehicle, it allows the driver to take full control of the car without any help from the ESC to assist in traction control.

The belt-driven dual camshafts, part of the long-life components in Ford’s 1.6L I-4 EcoBoost® engine, offer outstanding endurance and durability.


One of the standout components of the Fiesta ST is its distinctive overboost turbo feature, which allows the car to enjoy an additional increase of torque when accelerating.

Operating between 1600rpm and 6000rpm, the overboost function has the capacity to increase the engine output to 147kW of power and 290Nm of torque. This means the turbocharger can automatically provide the driver with an additional boost, particularly when extra acceleration is needed. The overboost is built into the engine calibration of the Fiesta ST and broadens the revolutions per minute (RPM) range of the peak torque curve, resulting in a better all-round performance.

Engine Sound Symposer

Another feature of the 1.6L EcoBoost® engine is that the engine Sound Symposer emphasises sound quality and response and filters noise into the passenger compartment. The symposer module is connected to the charge air inlet duct and separates high and low pressure sides. While most conventional turbocharged intake systems do not amplify the induction noise of the engine, Ford allows the subtle and smooth sound of the engine to be heard in the passenger cabin, enhancing the overall driving experience and making it feel like you are truly in a race car.
