0The Daihatsu that scared the Europeans
This is the remarkable Daihatsu Charade GTti. It was launched in 1987 and sales continued until 1993. At its launch, this Charade GTti was the fastest 1.0L production car in the world.
It was the 3rd generation Charade and the model series was known as the G100.This little Daihatsu had a power-to-weight ratio of 122bhp and was just 808kg. It also had a tiny 1.0L 3-cylinder engine with a turbocharger strapped to it ready to deliver 100bhp. This allowed it to run from 0-100km/h in just 7.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 190km/h. This 993cc engine had twin cams and electronic fuel injection. Impressive and very rare it is not a common sight in any market. Used prices today will depend on demand and supply and we predict about RM12,000 for a well maintained GTti and a low RM5,000 for a reengineered version using a stock 4-door body.
